According to a report from Fichajes, it has come to light that Real Madrid are stepping up the efforts to clear the left-back conundrum once and for all, and for that, Florentino Perez has decided to take the matters into his own hands.

The outlet mentions that the club president is personally leading the negotiations to bring Paris Saint-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes to the Spanish capital.

It is said that the deal is expected to cost Real Madrid as much as €70 million, but Perez is satisfied with the idea because he feels the Portuguese international is an appropriate match for the team’s future.

Real Madrid need a full-back

With Alphonso Davies deciding to stay at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid have shifted their attention in the direction of Mendes.

At just 22 years of age, Mendes has already established himself as a full-back of top quality.

Whether it is in Ligue 1 or the Champions League, the Portuguese defender has continued to impress the spectators with his pace, dribbling, and defending.

In fact, these features have particularly caught Madrid’s interest, especially now that Ferland Mendy, in all likelihood, appears to be departing at the end of the season.

A top-quality full-back

It must be noted that although Mendes signed an extension with PSG until 2030, things have not been completely smooth between the player and the French club.

As a result, Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation, hoping to take advantage of any tensions.

If Mendy is to leave, Real Madrid will want to sign a defender and given that the club’s method is centered around building a young, dynamic team, Mendes suits the bill flawlessly.

It is said that the Real Madrid hierarchy is already operating behind the scenes to prepare for formal talks. If Perez succeeds on this challenge, Madrid will sign arguably one of the finest full-backs of the current generation.
