Barcelona might soon face a change in their defensive setup.
According to SPORT, if Hector Fort’s departure from the club is finalised this summer, young talent Xavi Espart could be the one stepping into the first-team picture.
Fort is currently negotiating his exit from the club. Earlier this week, Mallorca’s representatives held a meeting with Barça’s sporting director Deco regarding three players, and Fort’s name was included.
The young defender also has an offer on the table from Como. So, with multiple options open, signs are pointing towards Fort leaving Barcelona before the new season.
If this move goes through, manager Hansi Flick will be left without a natural right-back in the squad.
Indeed, Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia will be relied on, but neither is are natural full-back. This is where Espart enters the scene as a genuine option for the Catalan side.

It is to be noted that Espart joined La Masia back as a pivot. However, over the last two seasons, he has been converted into a right-back, a decision that has proven to be highly effective.
His adaptation to the new role has been impressive, with significant growth in both physical strength and tactical awareness.
The youngster has built muscle, improved his pace, and sharpened his ability to make overlapping runs both on and off the ball.
Defensively, he has become more reliable, consistent, and comfortable under pressure. His crossing and passing speed also fit well into Barcelona’s fluid attacking system, making him a potential asset for Flick.
If Fort moves on, Espart’s promotion could be more than just a backup plan. Barcelona need a natural right-back to balance their defence, and Espart has shown qualities that align with the club’s football philosophy.
