Fiorentina have confirmed that the team will return to action on Wednesday evening for their scheduled Coppa Italia match against Empoli upon the wishes of midfielder Edoardo Bove, who was admitted to intensive care on Sunday night after collapsing on the pitch against Inter in Serie A.
Bove collapsed off the ball in the 17th minute of the Fiorentina-Inter match on Sunday night and was taken to the nearby Careggi hospital where he was admitted to intensive care. The club have since confirmed that the 22-year-old is ‘awake, alert and oriented’ and that diagnostic tests are ‘still ongoing’.
Several senior Fiorentina figures have been to visit Bove in-person, including players David De Gea, Lucas Beltran, Andrea Colpani and Danilo Cataldi, plus coach Raffaele Palladino, directors Alessandro Ferrari and Daniele Prade, as well as FIGC President Gabriele Gravina.
As confirmed in a recent Fiorentina statement, Bove also spoke with the full Fiorentina squad via a video call. As a result, the Viola squad have congregated at Viola Park and are now beginning to prepare for Wednesday’s game against Empoli in the Coppa Italia.

“ACF Fiorentina confirms following the reassuring news received today, and after the video call that Edoardo wanted to make with all his teammate, that the coach and technical staff have gathered at Viola Park and that the team has decided to return to the pitch immediately and prepare for the match against Empoli on Wednesday,” a statement read.
“President Commisso is in constant contact with the Viola management, and Edoardo’s family have been reassured about his health by his father, while waiting to speak with him directly in the next few hours.”
Kick-off between Fiorentina and Empoli on Wednesday night is currently scheduled for 30.00 GMT.
