There has been another twist in the strange tale of the insulting Fiorentina tifo during the game against Juventus, as the local authorities are also imposing fines.

The expectations were that the Viola fans would have a message welcoming their bitter rivals to the Stadio Artemio Franchi for last weekend’s Serie A showdown, which ended 3-0 for the hosts.

However, many considered the message displayed in huge letters all across the stands to be beyond the usual level of club mockery and tipped over into being an unseemly insult.

Fiorentina were fined €50,000 by the Lega Serie A and given a warning that further breaches could see them hit with a stadium ban.

Now there is a new twist with news that the local authorities have fined 11 Tuscan supporters €166 each for sitting in seats that had not been assigned to them.

The big issue is the 12th fan, who was fined for organising a different choreography in the stands to the one that had been agreed upon with the Security Group (GOS).

This suggests that the Fiorentina fans presented a design to the local authorities before the match and were given the all-clear, then changed it once they were in position to the insulting phrase.

Had they confirmed this was going to be the plan all along, they would not have been allowed to go ahead with the tifo.

If it had been a banner, then this could’ve been inspected and banned from entering the stadium, but the message was spelled out in small squares of paper.
