Fagioli had also been a target for Roberto De Zerbi’s Olympique de Marseille in January, but the player had ‘prioritised’ a move to Tuscany instead. Marseille have since struck an agreement with Milan for Ismael Bennacer.

Fiorentina have already made five additions in January. They were among the first of the Italian signings to complete a deal this window with the addition of Nicolas Valentini from Boca Juniors, and could become one of the last to get a deal over the line with Fagioli.

La Viola have also added Michael Folorunsho, Pablo Mari and Nicolo Zaniolo to their ranks this month, and also announced the signing of Italy U21 star Cher Ndour on deadline day.
