Liverpool are not planning to sign a new centre-back this summer according to Feyenoord defender David Hancko.

A centre-back was expected to be high on the Reds' shopping list this summer, with Joel Matip no longer at the club, Virgil van Dijk having just one year left on his contract and Ibrahima Konate's difficult injury history.

However, Hancko, formerly coached by new Reds boss Arne Slot, shared insights suggesting that Liverpool may not be actively seeking reinforcements in defence.

"I have spoken to [Slot] a few times since the end of the season, but I don't think they are looking for a player in my position," said the 26-year-old to Voetbal International. "I don't think a transfer will happen.

"But I wish him the best of luck, he really is a fantastic coach. I think that in three years he will be among the best coaches in the world. I can see that happening, because I know what he did with us and now he has the biggest platform to show that.

"I have a lot of confidence in him and his staff. I don't say that out of hope to go with him to Liverpool, because that is unlikely."

Hancko was one of Slot's most trusted individuals at Feyenoord, fueling speculation that the two might reunite at Anfield. The defender won the Eredivisie in 2022/23 and clinched the KNVB Cup last term.

Lille centre-back Leny Yoro has also been touted as a possible target for Liverpool, although the young Frenchman is reported to favour a switch to Real Madrid either this summer or in 2025, when his contract expires.

Liverpool did highlight their commitment to young Jarell Quansah recently as reports suggest they declined the chance to include the 21-year-old in a deal to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
