Feyenoord manager Robin Van Persie acknowledged Inter Milan’s strength ahead of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the former Dutch striker backed Inter’s pre-match favoritism.
Van Persie returned to his old stomping ground in a managerial capacity to replace Brian Priske in the dugout.
However, his touchline debut didn’t go to plan, as Feyenoord shared the spoils with NEC Nijmegen in a scoreless home draw.
Feyenoord will require a quick turnaround if they’re to upset the odds against, as they did in the knockout playoffs.
Indeed, coached by interim boss Pascal Bosschaart, they stunned AC Milan to set up this tie.
But unlike the Rossoneri, catching Inter off guard won’t be simple.
Despite missing several first-team stars, the reigning Scudetto holders remain one of Europe’s best teams.
Head coach Simone Inzaghi boasts an array of top talents in his squad and will aim to avoid Milan’s fate.
“This is my first week as Feyenoord’s head coach, and the feelings are very positive,” Van Persie started.
“It will be a challenging period with many matches, but the players are showing that they are ready.”

Meanwhile, he admitted the Italian giants are among the best teams in the competition.
“They are very strong,” Van Persie added. “So far, they have conceded only one goal in the Champions League.
“Their defensive approach is very solid, but they are also excellent at attacking spaces.
“These are their main threats, and for us, it will be important to show courage.
“We will have our fans with us – they will be our 12th man. We hope to connect with them.”
Then, Van Persie confirmed he’d gladly coach numerous Inter stars.
“Maybe even a couple, I would pick many,” he laughed.
“They are strong in every department. From my point of view, playing at this level is a dream.”
Finally, he recalled taking on Inter as a young player in 2002.
“Yes, I came off the bench – I think it was the UEFA Cup semifinal. It was fantastic.
“We were lucky on that occasion, as we advanced by defending the entire time after scoring.”
