Favourites for West Ham job with Moyes era set to end | OneFootball

Julen Lopetegui is favourite to succeed David Moyes at West Ham United with the Scot set to leave after four years in charge.

Moyes’ contract at the Hammers expires in the summer, with it reported that the Scotsman will call an end on his time in charge of the east London club.

There is no short of potential replacements for the 60-year-old, who led West Ham to three consecutive seasons in Europe since his return in 2019, as well as the Europa Conference League title last campaign.

According to Betfair, former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is 2/1 favourite to succeed Moyes, having been without a club since leaving the Black Country outfit on the eve of the current season.

Here are the current odds on favourites for the job:

Julen Lopetegui – 2/1

The Spaniard is currently a free agent having left fellow Premier League side Wolves at the start of the season. Lopetegui, a former manager of Real Madrid and Spain, is said to be impressed with the club’s heirarchy and at the moment looks to be favourite for the job. Whilst in charge of Wolves, Lopetegui guided Wolves from 20th to 13th by the end of the sesaon having taken over in December 2022 with the side rooted to the bottom of the table.

Graham Potter – 3/1

Much like Lopetegui, Potter has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023. Since departing the Blues, Potter has been away from the game, with the 48-year-old consistently one of the favourites for plenty of jobs. Whilst his handling of the Chelsea project did not go to plan, the Solihull native was hugely successful at his other previous clubs Swansea and Brighton and would be a solid choice with an inevitable rebuild on the horizon.

Gary O’Neil – 7/1

O’Neil has been a revelation since taking over from the previously mentioned Lopetegui at Wolves on the eve of the current Premier League season. After a rocky first couple of months in charge, O’Neil has guided Wolves to 11th place so far on a shoestring budget, with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto both thriving under the former Bournemouth boss. A top job is bound to come the 40-year-old’s way in the future.

Ruben Amorim – 8/1

Yesterday it was reported that Amorim had travelled to London for talks about the West Ham job having also been one of the favourites to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Since then, Amorim’s odds have dropped with the Portuguese unlikely to take over. The 39-year-old’s stock has risen after guiding Sporting Lisbon to the Portuguese title in 2021, with another league title on the horizon this campaign.

Michael Carrick – 8/1

After seeing his stock rise rapidly last season after driving Middlesborough to the Championship play-offs having taken charge in October 2022, Carrick has gone under the radar this campaign. Touted for jobs at higher levels earlier in the season, Boro are currently ninth and unable to reach this season’s play-offs, with inconsistency plaguing most of their campaign. Carrick guided the Teeside club to a superb 1-0 win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg, a highlight of a topsy-turvy season.
