Teenage winger had attracted interest from Greek giants PAOK
The 18-year-old right winger has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Potters, with the option for a further year, after his short-term contract with West Ham expired at the end of January.
Stoke offered Fawunmi the contract on Tuesday after he scored twice and impressed in a trial match against Huddersfield Town’s B team which Stoke’s Under-21s won 4-2.
He had attracted interest from Greek side PAOK, who had tabled a three-year contract, but preferred to stay in England and now joins up with Stoke’s U21s.
Standard Sport understands he had declined the offer of a new contract with the Hammers last month. The offer was a contract running to summer 2026 with an option for a further year.
The Englishman signed scholarship terms with the Hammers ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season. That year, he scored 10 times in the side that won the FA Youth Cup under Kevin Keen.
Over the past two seasons, he represented the West Ham U18s on 44 occasions, scoring 17 goals.
Following his recovery from injury, West Ham had offered Fawunmi a short-term contract last summer which ran to January 31, after which he became a free agent.
