Budget options:

Daniel Peretz, Hamburger SV 1.1m

Having moved to Hamburger SV from Bayern Munich in the search of more playing time, Peretz is available for just 1.1 million. It's currently uncertain if he will be HSV’s starting goalkeeper, as coach Merlin Polzin has split playing time between Peretz and Daniel Heuer Fernandes during the preseason. Peretz was given the opportunity to play in HSV’s final pre-season friendly, while Fernandes is set to start in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, with a final decision on the starter to be made afterwards. Betting everything on Peretz to start at this point seems risky, but he’s certainly a strong option as an affordable second goalkeeper with a realistic chance of playing time.

Diant Ramaj, Heidenheim 5m

Another player who has moved on in search of playing time, Ramaj has joined Heidenheim on loan from Borussia Dortmund. Unlike Peretz, Ramaj has been clearly given the number one goalkeeper spot heading into the new season. The former Eintracht Frankfurt keeper impressed during his loan spell at FC Copenhagen in the second half of last season and is expected to get plenty of points from making saves, playing for a club likely to be involved in the relegation battle. Kevin Müller, whom Ramaj has displaced as Heidenheim’s No. 1, made the second-highest number of saves in the league last season (108) behind RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi.

Mid-range options:

Gregor Kobel, Borussia Dortmund 7.4m

Interestingly, prices for starting goalkeepers from top sides have been significantly lowered. This makes sense, as these keepers typically aren’t among the highest performers. Playing behind stronger defenses and with their teams often controlling possession, they face fewer shots and therefore make fewer saves compared to goalkeepers from teams lower down the table.

The advantage of having someone like Gregor Kobel is that he concedes relatively few goals. Looking at last season, he actually made a decent number of saves too - significantly more than, for example, Manuel Neuer. Still, he’s not quite at the very top, and since clean sheets no longer grant points directly, his overall ceiling is somewhat limited.

Nikolaj Vasilj, St. Pauli 8.6mVasilj saved the joint-most penalties (4) last season, ranked fifth for total saves (101) and completed the sixth-most long passes (164). At the same time, St. Pauli conceded far fewer goals than the other clubs in the relegation battle - just 41, the second-best defensive record in the league behind only Bayern. Overall, he’s a very solid pick on all parameters.

Premium options:

Robin Zentner, Mainz 9.6m

Zentner was a popular pick last season, and for good reason, as he was among the goalkeepers with the most saves and completed long passes. There's no reason to expect anything less this season, but whether it’s worth spending nearly 10 million on a goalkeeper remains highly questionable.

Oliver Baumann, Hoffenheim 11m

Baumann has been an extremely solid Fantasy option for years and ranks well on all parameters, but he has almost always been too expensive to seriously consider. Unfortunately, that remains the case this year, as he’s the most expensive goalkeeper in the game.
