Speaking exclusively with FLW, Don Goodman has been discussing Stoke City's move for Sorba Thomas.
Stoke City have completed the signing of Huddersfield Town winger Sorba Thomas.
The Potters confirmed the Wales international as their first signing of the summer transfer window on Saturday 7 June, penning a three-year contract with the club.
Thomas spent the 2024/25 season on loan with French Ligue 1 side Nantes, where he made 27 total appearances, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
The 26-year-old was signed by Huddersfield Town back in January 2021, when he was plucked out of non-league football with Boreham Wood, and enjoyed multiple strong seasons with the Terriers whilst also spending a brief period on loan with Blackburn in the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking exclusively with Football League World, we asked Sky Sports pundit and former player, Don Goodman: 'What do you make of Stoke City signing Sorba Thomas from Huddersfield? Good signing?'
Goodman said: "Yes, I think he'll be a good signing, and if Stoke City fans have just watched the Wales game in Belgium, I think they'll be excited about his signing.
"He got a goal and an assist, he's an international footballer, he plays in a variety of positions, he's very athletic - which is probably an area that Stoke City want to improve on from last season.
"He's got a wonderful delivery. He takes set pieces, and at 26, there's still improvement to be had as well; working under a seasoned manager like Mark Robins can only help.
"So, all in all, Sorba Thomas to Stoke City I think is a great move."
Thomas' name may have slightly dropped off the radar of English football after his loan venture to France this past season, but his previous exploits in the second tier should have Stoke supporters licking their lips.
Indeed, in his last season playing Championship football in 2023/24, the Welshman created the second most chances of any second tier player that term with 123, as Ipswich Town's Leif Davis pipped him to that crown with 125, per FotMob.
However, Thomas did lead the division that year in expected assists (13.3) and expected assists per 90 minutes (0.35), per FotMob.
He also ranked in the top 100 percentile among his Championship positional peers in 2023/24 for successful crosses with 148, as well as ranking in the top 96.2 percentile for successful dribbles with 43.
So, it's fair to say that Thomas has proven himself to be a highly impactful and quality player at Championship level during his time with Huddersfield, and given he's still very much in the prime years of his career, he could become a real key part of the Potters' future.
