Fabrizio Romano delivered the ‘here we go’ that could finally unlock Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, but there is a catch.

The Premier League giants have been vigorously trying to buy the Cameroonian winger from Brentford. While they had managed to win the player’s favour, they haven’t been able to strike an agreement with the Bees, who have thus far rejected multiple offers.

But as reported last week, Man Utd are set to receive a timely boost in their Mbeumo pursuit, as Newcastle have launched an onslaught for their former player, Anthony Elanga, who is coming off a spectacular campaign at Nottingham Forest.

On Monday night, Romano confirmed the deal is now imminent with his trademark ‘here we go’. The Italian journalist reveals that the clubs have reached an agreement worth £55 million. The Magpies have also found an accord with the Swedish winger on personal terms.

Hence, the transfer is set to be completed in the coming hours, with United in line to receive circa £8 million thanks to a 15% sell-on fee inserted in their agreement with Forest dating back to 2023.

But while this unexpected financial boost could help the Reds bridge the gap with Brentford and finally complete the signing of Mbeumo, the Elanga deal could also entail negative consequences.

Why Elanga deal is not all good news for Man Utd & Mbeumo

As explained by The i Paper journalist Mark Douglas, Brentford now feel entitled to receive a higher transfer fee for Mbeumo after watching Elanga join Newcastle for £55 million, and Joao Pedro completing a transfer from Brighton to Chelsea for £60 million.

While the Swede and the Brazilian are coming off solid Premier League campaigns, Brentford feel that Mbeumo operated on a whole different level, as evidenced by his sensational stats.

Therefore, a bit more patience is required from Man United who at least count on Mbeumo’s preference which repelled all other suitors.
