With the January transfer window open, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to offload players who are no longer in their plans, and Marco Asensio is one of them.
Since November 30, Asensio’s role has diminished. The former Real Madrid star has lost his place in the starting lineup and has only made a few appearances off the bench.
On Sunday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Aston Villa have agreed to sign Asensio on loan from PSG. This deal doesn’t impact Marcus Rashford, who is still expected to join Villa on loan, likely with an option to buy.
PSG are satisfied with securing a short-term solution for Asensio, with Villa set to cover his full wages.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Aston Villa will cover Asensio’s full salary until June, with PSG agreeing to a straight loan. There’s no buy option included, and Asensio is set to arrive in England for his medical on Sunday.
Asensio will be under Unai Emery and working with the Spaniard could put the former Real Madrid standout back on the right career path ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As a result, it will be interesting to see how this loan deal works out.
