The centre-back has been excellent in the Championship this season for the Rams, and could be a target of transfer activity in the summer.

Eiran Cashin has been one of Derby County's greatest academy graduates in the last decade, and is already starting to build his own legacy at Pride Park Stadium.

The 22-year-old is perhaps the first name on the teamsheet at the moment, and his performances in the Championship so far in 2024/25 have proven that he is not just limited to League One football.

Cashin, who was a part of Derby's U18s team that won the Premier League 2 title in the 2018/19 campaign, has established himself as a dominant centre-back who also has the ability to play out from the back calmly. Nevertheless, his diagonal long pass has become a bit of a trademark of his as he continues to develop in black-and-white.

At such a young age, the Mansfield-born ace is quickly becoming one of the best defenders in the Championship, and he will start to attract more and more interest from those towards the top of his own division and sides in the Premier League.

Football League World has taken a look at Cashin's current transfer situation, and how his current contract has an impact on that.

Cashin's future is secured at Derby

The 22-year-old headed into the final year of his contract at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, alongside fellow academy graduates Liam Thompson, Louie Sibley and Max Bird.

The latter two did not agree to new deals with the club that they had been at since they were young, however, Thompson was given an extension at the end of the campaign, while Cashin secured a new long-term contract back in February.

Derby's vice-captain put pen-to-paper on a deal until 2027, much to the relief of supporters, and he has continued to maintain the same level of performance since making his debut under the guidance of Wayne Rooney in December 2021.

Cashin has been exceptional with the Ram on his chest, and he continues to impress week-in-week-out. While supporters do love him, it's a relationship that goes both ways, and in February 2023, he outlined what the club means to him.

"I would run through brick walls for this club, I'd put my body on the line. I'd do anything to bring success to this club again."

Cashin has had transfer interest in the last year

Although it currently seems highly unlikely that the defender will move on from Pride Park anytime soon, in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, there was a lot of interest in him from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Seagulls tried multiple times throughout August 2023 to try and bring the young defender to the AMEX Stadium, including a bid worth around £4 million on deadline day, according to John Percy.

Nevertheless, Derby were able to fend off the top flight side and kept hold of one of their key stars, a move that helped them to promotion as Cashin played 44 times, scoring three goals from centre-back.

Although Warne was able to ensure that his number six stayed at the club in the summer, the January window brought about new interest from different sides. Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and West Ham United were just three of several clubs who were targeting the 22-year-old, according to TeamTalk.

However, a one-year extension to his previous deal in January eased any pressure on both Derby and Cashin to make any immediate decisions.

Nevertheless, this January will more than likely see more clubs circle the centre-back, but the Rams should be confident that they can keep hold of their superstar.
