Francesco Calvo has resigned from Juventus to become the new Aston Villa CEO, and Romeo Agresti explains it was a ‘personal and professional decision.’

Juventus’ managing director of commercial and institutional relations, Calvo, is set to become the new Aston Villa CEO, stepping down from his role at Juventus.

Calvo returned for a second spell at Juventus in April 2022 and has also worked for Roma and Barcelona.

He was recently involved in searching for a new main sponsor at Juventus, but his duties at the club went far beyond that.

“It was a broader role in institutional relations, Lega Serie A, UEFA, and FIFA. Juventus didn’t sack Calvo; he decided to go,” Juventus expert Agresti explained on YouTube.

“He will be the Aston Villa CEO, something he couldn’t do at Juventus, where Maurizio Scanavino is covering the same role. It’s about ambition and accepting a new challenge in the most competitive league in Europe. Calvo will have a better role. It’s a personal and professional choice.”

It remains to be seen how Juventus will replace Calvo, but according to recent reports, Giorgio Chiellini is one of the candidates to cover the same position from next season.

Juventus currently sit fourth in the Serie A table, level on 64 points with Lazio and just one point above Roma.

Their next home game is against Udinese at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
