Several names have been linked with the Foxes top job, with Sean Dyche and Danny Rohl among those touted.

Wilderr, 57, finds himself available after parting company with the Blades just weeks after their play-off final defeat to Sunderland.

Meanwhile, Leicester are searching for a new manager following Ruud van Nistelrooy's exit after their relegation to the second tier.

Chris Wilder has high pedigree at Championship level

Speaking exclusively to FLW, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has his say on the Chris Wilder, Leicester City situation.

"I take Chris Wilder’s pedigree at Championship level particularly is still very high, most people would probably feel he’s been treated very harshly by Sheffield United and he accumulated 92 points if you add on the two points deducted last season, which is a brilliant record," Goodman told FLW.

The former striker's assessment rings true when examining Wilder's achievements at Bramall Lane. He took the club from League One to the Premier League in just three years - ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa labelled him a "genius" after losing out on promotion to them in 2019.

"So, the question is, is Leicester City going to be a hugely attractive job, how many points are they going to be deducted if they’re going to get points deducted," he added.

Leicester's potential points deduction remains uncertain. The club face possible sanctions for Profit and Sustainability Rules breaches, with reports suggesting they could face a deduction of between four and 12 points at the start of 25/26.

Despite financial worries, the East Midlands outfit will have one of the strongest squads next season with an abundance of top-flight experience - and Wilder can get the best out of them.

Leicester City should consider Chris Wilder for manager role

The timing of Wilder's availability could prove perfect for Leicester's needs. Having been described as "blindsided" by his Sheffield United dismissal, the manager did lead the Blades to their best second-tier points tally in years.

Goodman believes if the Foxes don't recieve a points deduction, then Wilder should be looked at - saying, "If they start on an even keel then it would be an attractive job, you would suspect the owners are keen to bounce back at the first attempt and in saying all of that, that would mean the name Chris Wilder should be someone that they’d be considering."

There's no doubt Leicester need a manager with proven second-tier promotion credentials regardless of a points deduction - and Wilder's availability is a rare opportunity to secure just that.

Whether Leicester can convince Wilder that the King Power Stadium is the place for his next challenge remains to be seen, but his proven track record suggests he would be an inspired choice for their second-tier return.
