The 58-year-old started his professional career with the Lions and became a huge success in the English capital, appearing 244 times for the club during the 1980s and the early 1990s.

Scoring 111 goals in the process, he was able to establish himself as a club legend there and went on to impress for much of the remainder of his playing career.

Featuring for the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after leaving The Den, he was able to win a decent amount of silverware, with the forward enjoying Premier League title wins and a Champions League to go with it.

Scoring against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final, he played a key role in winning Sir Alex Ferguson's side the European title in Barcelona.

After enjoying an impressive playing career that lasted for more than 20 years, featuring for a number of prestigious clubs and England, Sheringham decided to go into coaching and was given a role at West Ham United in May 2014.

It wasn't too long before he was poached by another club, with then-League Two outfit Stevenage appointing him as Graham Westley's successor during the following year.

He spent less than nine months at the Lamex Stadium, with the forward struggling during the latter stages of his time there.

The 58-year-old was also the head coach of Indian outfit ATK after that, but has been out of management since 2018.

Teddy Sheringham on whether he is open to returning to Millwall

Neil Harris managed to get the Lions back on track following Joe Edwards' departure and although it hasn't been all plain sailing for the former, the club's results during the latter stages of the campaign will give him hope.

Sheringham could be an asset to have alongside him, but asked whether he would be keen to return to The Den in some capacity, the former England international told FLW: "No.

"The hard way I got brought up and the YTS scheme there, coming through the ranks.

"But no, I have no inclination of going back there. I've had my managerial test, as such, loved that as well, my two little stints as manager, but I don't want to go back into it again."

The Lions have managed to register some impressive results since Harris returned to the club.

Having declined under Edwards, it wasn't going to be an easy task for the club to get themselves back on track and avoid relegation, but some brilliant results allowed them to climb out of danger.

With this in mind, replacing him at this point would be a mistake.

However, having someone of Sheringham's expertise in some capacity could be a good idea, with the 58-year-old having a decent amount of coaching experience under his belt.

Management doesn't seem to appeal to him anymore, but he could have taken on another important role if there was space for him at The Den.
