Notts County, Fleetwood Town, Walsall and Port Vale have all submitted offers to Carlisle United striker Matthew Dennis, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
As confirmed by the club's retained list following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, the 23-year-old has been offered a new contract by Carlisle, but is yet to ink his signature.
The striker was signed by the Cumbrians in February, on a short-term deal until the end of the season after being released by MK Dons during the winter transfer window.
Mark Hughes' side put up a valiant late effort against relegation from League Two this past term, but ultimately fell short in their fight for safety, and are now preparing for life in the National League.
Football League World has exclusively been informed that Notts County, Fleetwood TownWalsall and Port Vale have all tabled offers for Carlisle United striker Matthew Dennis.
Having yet to commit to a long-term future at Brunton Park, the young forward now has a number of EFL options on the table to choose from - something that Carlisle wouldn't have wanted to happen.
After arriving at the club in February, Dennis would go on to make 14 appearances in League Two for the Cumbrians, netting six times and bagging one assist during the second half of the season.
As such, he played a leading role in the club's ill-fated battle against relegation, and instantly endeared himself to the Brunton Park faithful.
Dennis spent 12 years with Arsenal as a youngster, before signing with Norwich City in the summer of 2020.
Having enjoyed some impressive performances in the Canaries' academy system, he was loaned out to National League side Southend United for the 2021/22 campaign, where he would score eight times in 30 total appearances.
Dennis would eventually be signed by MK Dons in the summer of 2022, where he made just shy of 50 appearances for the club, and scoring 11 goals during his time at Stadium MK before being released in early February of this year.
Dennis' goalscoring exploits for Carlisle last season were highly impressive given he wasn't afforded the luxury of time to hit the ground running, as well as turning out for a team in the midst of a relegation battle.
Nevertheless, his six goals in 14 appearances showcased his ability to find the net at League Two level, and given his contract situation with the Cumbrians, it's no surprise to see a host of EFL clubs jostling for his signature.
His rate of goals during his brief stint at Brunton Park provided evidence that over the course of a full fourth tier season, he could comfortably net 15-20 goals in a season - perhaps even more.
Signing a player of that quality, on a free transfer no less, is surely a no-brainer for the likes of Notts County, Fleetwood Town, Walsall and Port Vale respectively.
