Don Goodman exclusively revealed his thoughts to FLW regarding the Baggies losing out on Mikey Moore
West Bromwich Albion's hopes of securing Tottenham sensation Mikey Moore on loan have been dashed, with the 17-year-old set to complete a move to Rangers instead.
The appointment of Ryan Mason as West Brom head coach in June would have surely raised hopes among Baggies fans that the club could use their new manager's Spurs connections to secure loan deals for promising youngsters.
The Baggies, along with West Midlands rivals Birmingham City, were both interested in taking Moore on loan next season, according to Football Insider.
Moore has opted to move north of the border and join Glasgow giants Rangers, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the club were hopeful of sealing a deal in the coming days.
Former Wolves striker - and current Sky Sports pundit - Don Goodman, exclusively told FLW how well he thinks Moore will fare in Scotland, much to West Brom's dismay.
"Obviously, Mikey Moore is a player that Ryan Mason will know really well given his time at Spurs, given the fact that he helped develop Mikey Moore and watch him grow," Goodman told FLW.
"So, West Bromwich Albion’s loss will be Rangers' gain. I’m pretty confident that Mikey Moore will go to the SPFL and absolutely blitz it and do really, really well - very exciting player," he added.
The Scottish outfit's ability to offer potential Champions League football - they are currently qualifying for the competition - likely played a huge role in Moore's choice.
Rangers defeated Panathiniakos 2-0 in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie, putting them in a strong position to progress further in Europe's best competition.
"From West Brom’s perspective, disappointed that they couldn’t manage to tempt him, or persuade him to join them in the Championship, for what hopefully will be a promotion push," Goodman continued.
"But the lure of Rangers was too big, and I'm sure Mikey Moore will do well there."
Moore made his Premier League debut against Manchester City in May 2024, becoming Spurs' youngest ever top-flight player at 16 years and 277 days old.
His breakthrough season, 24/25, saw him make 19 appearances across all competitions, which included ten in the Premier League and five in the Europa League.
James Maddison compared the teenager to Neymar following his display against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, telling TNT Sports: "From minute 45 to 65, I thought we had Neymar on the left wing."
For West Brom, missing out on Moore does perhaps suggest a slight setback in their own promotion ambitions - Mason will now need to look elsewhere to strengthen his attacking options.
34-year-old Mason has made three signings so far this window, with Aune Heggebo from SK Brann being the only attacker, but he's an out-and-out striker so not comparable to a winger like Moore.
Finishing four points outside the play-offs last season, in ninth, Baggies fans will obviously be hoping Mason's appointment can help them do better in 25/26. However, as Goodman noted, there's no denying that losing out on a player of Moore's ability is a big loss.
