The Tractor Boys have been the subject of high exit talk so far this summer

Don Goodman has urged Ipswich Town to consider Cameron Burgess' worth as exit talk circulates around the 29-year-old centre-back.

The Tractor Boys are preparing for life back in the Championship after failing to bridge the well-documented gap between the upper echelons of the EFL and the Premier League after achieving back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna.

Unsurprisingly, exit talk has been the order of the day at Portman Road for quite some time, having begun straight after Town's relegation was confirmed with a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United on April 27th.

And, having already lost 12-goal man and star performer, Liam Delap, to Chelsea following the activation of a £30m relegation release clause, the likes of Omari Hutchinson and Dara O'Shea have recently been the subject of exit talk, as well as McKenna himself, who has been linked with a move to Brentford as Thomas Frank looks set for the Tottenham Hotspur vacancy.

However, it has now emerged that Valencia have joined fellow La Liga outfit Girona and Rangers in the race to sign Burgess, who was the subject of immense praise for his performances at the heart of Ipswich's defence in their rise from League One to the top-flight. But, Goodman believes an exit should only be sanctioned if the deal is right for the East Anglian outfit on the whole.

According to ElDesMarque, the Spanish giants, managed by former West Brom boss, Carlos Corberan, have already held talks with the Australian international over a potential move to the Mestalla, although whether it goes through could depend on outgoings at the club and if contract talks with the highly-rated Cristhian Mosquera are ground to a halt.

Rangers recently appointed former Southampton boss, Russell Martin, who will also know Burgess' capabilities well, having won promotion with the Saints during the season in which Ipswich held their own against a trio of newly-relegated sides in the race for the Premier League, and were linked with a potential swoop prior to the 39-year-old's appointment.

However, with the former Accrington Stanley defender currently out-of-contract in two weeks' time, Goodman has urged Ipswich to consider what would be the best possible outcome for them as they prepare for a critical season.

"It's another interesting one for Kieran McKenna, if he is to remain as Ipswich Town manager, but if not, for somebody else," the Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Football League World.

"Cameron Burgess started 16 games in the Premier League. Obviously, it was a tough experience for pretty much every Ipswich Town player last season with the exception of Liam Delap, who excelled.

"It's a case of, after 127 games for Ipswich, does he want a fresh challenge?" Goodman continued. "Certainly, Valencia and Rangers would give him that.

"But I guess, really, from Ipswich's perspective, because he would be a brilliant asset in the Championship, how much money would they be able to turn down for him, what would the fee be?

"That would be the all-important decision as to whether he leaves or whether they use him next season in the Championship," he concluded.

It may be a tall order for Ipswich Town to retain Cameron Burgess' services

For the majority of those 127 appearances, Burgess has been one of Ipswich's most consistent players in a period which even he may have not seen coming when initially signing for the club four years ago.

Regardless of the finances his current employers will have at their disposal through parachute payments, the stature of Valencia and Rangers and the size of their respective fanbases may be a major lure for the 13-time international, who will hope to feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Socceroos clinched qualification with a 2-1 success against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday night.

Unsurprisingly, Town are reportedly in contract talks with their long-serving defender, who has the ball in his court regarding the immediate future, with perhaps the main worry for supporters being the potential loss of both him and O'Shea, who has been linked
