The Dutchman managed just five wins during his tenure at the King Power Stadium, and was swiftly moved on after the Foxes were dumped from the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl is one of the names linked heavily with the Leicester hot seat. Though, could the higher-ups at the Foxes potentially swing to a name like Steven Gerrard?

The Liverpool legend enjoyed an impressive spell at Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, but found himself out of his depth at Aston Villa before heading to the Saudi Pro League’s Al-Ettifaq more recently.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit and ex-striker Don Goodman discussed whether Gerrard could be an option for the Foxes to consider.

Don Goodman passes his verdict on Leicester City’s manager search

Goodman said: “It’s very hard to judge, because he obviously did amazing with Rangers in the SPL, didn’t go well with Aston Villa in the Premier League, and how do you judge his efforts in the Saudi Pro League.”

Gerrard has so far had three managerial roles in the senior game, after cutting his teeth with the Liverpool youth set-up.

“It’s very, very difficult,” he continued. “On top of that, Gerrard would be asking himself if Leicester City an attractive job. There is a possible points deduction looming over them, no doubt there will be a massive overhaul of the playing squad, with lots of their best players wanting to leave.”

Leicester have the threat of a points deduction hanging over their heads going into the Championship season, with a verdict yet to be passed down.

Goodman added: “So, it’s double-barreled. Does Steven Gerrard’s managerial career so far warrant an opportunity at a club like Leicester?

“And, if it does, is Leicester at this moment an attractive proposition for Steven Gerrard? Those are your $64million questions.”

Steven Gerrard would be a surprising appointment

There is no doubting that Gerrard would be a surprising appointment for Leicester. Sean Dyche, who has spent time on the other end of the Merseyside Derby, has been among the linked names, but it appears Danny Rohl is the current favourite.

The Wednesday chief is preparing to exit the Owls after a torrid time with off-the-field issues at Hillsborough.

It would be a step forward for the German, who is a coach holding a clear and ambitious drive to push his career up to the next level.

Meanwhile, Gerrard has never managed in the Championship before, with the league being one of the most difficult to operate successfully in.

The former Liverpool captain, who won the FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Champions League during his time in Red, has over 100 caps for the England national team.
