Arnautovic’s future at Inter has been in some doubt in recent weeks.

With the January transfer window looming, there would be an opportunity to find a new club.

Reportedly, Torino have sounded out a move for Arnautovic.

And there have been certain factors that could push the veteran former West Ham United and Stoke City striker to accept a transfer.

Arnautovic has found his playing time dwindling this season. Particularly after Joaquin Correa has re-asserted himself as a starting option, increasing the competition in attack.

Therefore, the rumours have swirled that the Austrian’s time may be up at Inter.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi showed that he still trusts Arnautovic by starting the 35-year-old in the Coppa Italia yesterday, though.

And Arnautovic certainly repaid his coach’s faith.

The Austrian international was the scorer of Inter’s opening goal. But beyond that, he put in a sharp, hungry performance.

Clearly, Arnautovic is not going to displace starters like Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram off the back of one display like yesterday’s.

But nor has the veteran striker lost the trust of his coach, or fallen decisively behind Joaquin Correa in the pecking order.

Arnautovic looks likely to see out the remainder of his contract with Inter.

There may not be a huge number of opportunities for the Austrian in the second half of the campaign. But when they arrive, he should be ready to take them.
