Angelino and Nicola Zalewski will start on the left for Roma as part of a tactical “doubling up” against Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Mario Hermoso will start on the bench for the Giallorossi.

Roma coach Ivan Juric is getting his tactical plan ready for this evening’s match against Inter.

This encounter with the reigning Italian champions will be the toughest test yet for the former Torino and Hellas Verona coach in the Italian capital.

Both Inter and Roma tend to play with back threes. The Nerazzurri’s 3-5-2 formation under Simone Inzaghi is by now well-known, while Juric has always favoured a Gasperini-style back three system as well.

But neither team opt for a static formation on the pitch by any means. Quite the contrary.

Under Inzaghi, Inter’s 3-5-2 shape is very fluid and allows for plenty of movement and interchange between players in different areas.

That is the key to how the Nerazzurri can create superiority in certain parts of the pitch.

Stopping that – and finding gaps in Inter’s team shape – will be key for Juric and Roma.

The Croatian coach has always relied on a man-marking system to negate other teams’ plans. And that tends to mean a lot of versatility beyond the formation on paper.

Angelino & Zalewski To “Double Up” For Roma Vs Inter

According to the Corriere, former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso will drop out of the Roma starting eleven this evening.

The Spaniard is a fairly classic centre-back. He thrives playing in a defensive role in a back three.

But Juric has also often opted for Angelino in that role since his arrival.

The 27-year-old has emerged as a key player under the current Roma coach.

Angelino’s versatility has been as much an asset for Juric as the former Manchester City and RB Leipzig defender’s pace and technical quality.

Angelino is more than capable of playing an attacking wide role. But he can also play on the left of a back three – where he’s often featured under Juric.

And according to the Corriere, that is where Angelino will start this evening.

Meanwhile, Nicola Zalewski will start on the left of a 3-4-2-1 formation.

But that can easily become a 4-2-3-1 for Roma, the Corriere notes.

The Giallorossi should be able to transition into a shape with Angelino playing as an attacking full-back and Zalewski as a winger.

This could be crucial to Juric’s plan to push back Inter on the flanks.
