Former Inter Milan captain Andrea Ranocchia offered an insight into a turbulent relationship between Mauro Icardi and Wanda Nara.
Speaking on the Calcio Selvaggio podcast via FCInter1908, Ranocchia explained a complicated rapport between the former couple.
Icardi and Wanda had been one of the most controversial couples in world football.
Wanda wasn’t just his wife. She was also his agent. Indeed, she took care of his transfer dealings and other personal affairs.
However, the way they hooked up sparked significant controversy.
Wanda left Icardi’s former teammate Maxi Lopez to be with him, causing a media frenzy.
Despite giving the impression of a happy couple, the pair had problems.
Indeed, Wanda accused Icardi of having an affair with China Suarez in 2021.
After they announced divorce in January, Mauro Icardi made his relationship with the Argentine actress public.
“Wanda-Icardi-Keita? I didn’t notice anything,” Ranocchia said. “First of all, a Serie A locker room isn’t like hanging out with friends at a bar.
“The interests and pressures are enormous. After training, you’re listening to your teammates until the next day.
“Did someone listen to their friends’ wives? I read about that. With Wanda and Icardi, everything really happened.”
Ranocchia also praised Icardi’s footballing qualities. After all, the Argentine was one of Europe’s most lethal forwards at Inter.
“A phenomenal player, in the last 30 meters, I’ve seen very few like him.
“He was the captain, the number 9, the striker, with all the pressure, and he had a wife who didn’t help and caused all this media chaos.
“He had to manage the field along with everything that was happening off it.”
However, he admitted he avoided hanging out with the Icardi pair.
“I never hung out with Mauro and Wanda off the pitch.
“My feeling, which we’re still seeing now, is that she almost totally controlled him psychologically.
“She made him do whatever she wanted – it’s just my impression. As for teamwork, that’s not his strong suit, but in the last 30 meters, he’s one of the best.
“A bit like Inzaghi.”
