Former Nerazzurri defender Daniele Adanai says he’d be more worried about Inter Milan if they weren’t creating chances.
Speaking on RAI Sport, via FCInterNews, Adani gave his verdict after yesterday’s 1-0 Serie A win over Venezia, via FCInterNews.
Inter beat Venezia by a narrow 1-0 scoreline yesterday evening.
But in truth, the match could have seen more goals than just the solitary header from Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.
There were several good chances for Inter to score more.
Some profligate finishing as well as outstanding goalkeeping by Inter-owned Venezia keeper Filip Stankovic prevented the Nerazzurri from scoring any more.
There was also a Henrikh Mkhitaryan goal that came at the end of a flowing team move, but which was disallowed for a narrow offside by Federico Dimarco.
At the other end, meanwhile, Venezia had a late goal of their own ruled out for an attacking handball.
And that was far from the only decent opportunity to score that the Lagunari had.
Like Stankovic at the other end, Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer had to produce some excellent stops in order to preserve his team’s clean sheet.
“There was a goal that was disallowed,” Adani said of Inter’s performance yesterday.
“There were chances that they didn’t take advantage of.”
“Inter create a lot,” Adani argued. “They’re a strong team and they always show that.”
“This season they’ve struggled to disrupt their opponents, so if they don’t get it right they can put their opponents in a position to counterattack.”
“But the problem is more when you don’t get opportunities,” he said. “If you don’t kill the game off in Serie A, any team can always spoil your party.”
Of the return of Hakan Calhanoglu for Inter, Adani said that “I don’t take anything away from Calhanoglu’s quality.”
“But even without him, Inter had to do better than the other teams.”
“They had an incredible pace last season,” Adani went on. “You can’t always take 94 points in a season.”
“If you fall asleep in Serie A, any team can spoil your party. Look at Juve or Milan.”
Adani argued that “The margin of victory could have been wider,” in yesterday’s match.
“But I’d be worrying if Inter weren’t creating chances.”
