Tomorrow evening, Inter are back in action in the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri host Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade in their second match of the “league phase” of the new format for Europe’s top club competition.

In Inter’s first match they faced Manchester City away.

That match was a repeat of the final of the 2022-23 edition of the competition.

Like that final, which Inter lost narrowly, the Nerazzurri went toe-to-toe with Premier League juggernauts City. But this time, they went one better by taking a precious point away.

That result certainly confirmed that Inter are hardly underdogs at the highest level anymore.

On the other hand, the Nerazzurri will have the pressure of being favourites against Red Star tomorrow.

Stramaccioni: “Inter Among The 5-6 Strongest Teams In Champions League”

There will be some more very tough matches to come.

Of course, there are few easy matches at this level. But on paper, Inter will be eyeing up Arsenal as their toughest opposition remaining in the league phase.

Then there are teams like Monaco, RB Leipzig, and above all reigning German champions Bayer Leverkusen for Inter to look out for.

But the Nerazzurri have become used to these kinds of big European matches over the last few seasons.

Former Inter coach Stramaccioni commented, “In my view, if a certain jolt was needed from the derby, they got it.”

“After looking shellshocked for the first fifteen minutes, Inter reacted in the derby,” he argued. “They played thirty minutes at a high level.”

“And then this was the hunger we saw from them in Udinese.”

“Other than a couple individual errors, they’re on the right path,” Stramaccioni argued.

The former Nerazzurri coach declared that “For me Inter are one of the 5-6 most complete and experienced teams in Europe.”

“Only one area is a bit lacking,” he added. “The defense.”

“Acerbi is very experienced. And Bastoni is their best player in defense.”

“But look at the derby:” Stramaccioni made clear. “Inzaghi ended the match with Darmian and Carlos Augusto, who are good players but not real physical defenders.”
