Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer says that he “can’t wait to play” against Man City in the Champions League tomorrow.

The Swiss international spoke in a press conference ahead of the match, as reported by FCInterNews.

Tomorrow evening, Inter begin their Champions League campaign for the season.

And the Nerazzurri could not have gotten a much tougher match in which to do so.

Inter have to face Premier League juggernauts Manchester City in the first match of the “league phase” of Europe’s top club competition.

But Inter will feel that they have a lot to prove.

The Nerazzurri’s Champions League ended in disappointment last season. They allowed a 2-0 advantage on aggregate slip to go out against Atletico Madrid.

This time around, Inter will certainly be hungry to show that they remain the force that they were two seasons ago, when they reached the final and went toe-to-toe with City, losing only narrowly.

Inter keeper Sommer declared that “I can’t wait to play tomorrow’s match in the Champions League.”

“We’ve done everything we can to prepare for matches like tomorrow’s,” he added.

Of Inter’s start to the season, Sommer said that “So far I don’t think we’ve shown the best that we’re capable of.”

“But that’s okay,” the goalkeeper continued.

“It’s a long season. As the last one was.”

“It’s normal that at the beginning of the season some things don’t go the way we want,” Sommer said.

Of Manchester City striker Ering Haaland, Sommer said that “He’s one of the best strikers in the world.”

“But we’re coming against a team who are very strong in attack as a whole.”

“We need to put in a great performance tomorrow,” Sommer made clear. “Against one of the best teams in Europe.”

As far as his own personal duel with Haaland, Sommer said that “I prepare for every match the same way.”

“Obviously we’re talking about a team with very high-quality players.”

“I’ve played against Haaland several times,” Sommer noted. “I know how he plays, and I’ll try to make it difficult for him tomorrow.”

“I don’t think we have to stop Haaland,” the Inter keeper made clear. “We have to stop Manchester City – the difference is important.”

“He gets balls from his teammates.”

“I’m convinced that we can do well because we have a lot of quality and have prepared well,” Sommer added. “We can defend well and keep our shape between the lines.”
