Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard will start on the bench in this weekend’s Serie A match away to Venezia.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908. They report that the Frenchman will be back from injury, but not in the starting eleven.
Inter defender Benjamin Pavard has now been on the sidelines for more than a month.
The former Bayern Munich and Stuttgart defender picked up a thigh strain during Inter’s Champions League group stage match against RB Leipzig in November.
Inter had initially hoped to have Pavard back for the Supercoppa Italiana. However, he was not quite able to get back to fitness for that competition.
However, Pavard has recovered from his injury.
Pavard’s return is certainly good news for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
Yann Bisseck has filled in very well on the right side of Inter’s defense in Pavard’s absence.
Nevertheless, Inzaghi will certainly want as much depth in the defensive positions as possible for the gruelling run of fixtures to come, between Serie A, the Champions League, and the Coppa Italia.
Inter have faced a defensive injury crisis in recent weeks.
Pavard’s return will not mean that Inzaghi will rush him straight back into the starting eleven, however.
Inter’s next match is against Venezia in Serie A. And Bisseck should still be the starter for that match.
Pavard will be on the bench for the clash. He may get a run-out during the second half, though, as he looks to regain match fitness.
