Inter’s Serie A title charge took yet another blow yesterday in the Derby d’Italia.

The Nerazzurri had been handed a golden opportunity to go top of the table after Napoli slumped to defeat against Lazio on Saturday.

However, a match away to Juventus was never going to be a straightforward occasion to try and capitalize.

And so it proved.

Inter Milan were dominant in the first half, but failed to take advantage of their chances. And in the second, it was Juventus who took control.

Eventually, the Bianconeri made the breakthrough from a Francisco Conceicao goal. They sent Inter home empty-handed.

Mkhitaryan: “Our Goals Haven’t Changed” Despite Juventus 1-0 Inter Milan Loss

After the match, Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan admitted that “This is a loss that hurts.”

“Because in the first half, we created a lot. But we didn’t take advantage of our chances, and we paid the price for it.”

“Then after the break, we started off a bit badly, we allowed them too much,” Mkhitaryan continued. “But that’s the way football is.”

As far as Inter’s struggles in head-to-head matches against big teams this season, Mkhitaryan said that it’s “a difficult question to answer.”

“It’s hard for us too,” the Armenian said. “We’re confident, we work hard to learn and improve, and we’ll work hard to win the matches we have left.”

Of calling Inter “unplayable” Mkhitarayn said that “I’ll always use that word, because I have so much faith in my teammates and in the way we play.”

“Even today, in the first half we were unplayable. We could have scored two or three goals at least.”

“But having not done so, we paid for it in the second half,” the 36-year-old lamented.

And Mkhitaryan made clear that yesterday’s loss doesn’t alter Inter’s ambition. “Our goals never change,” said the former Arsenal midfielder. “Including during the season.”

“We want to fight for the Scudetto and win trophies,” he made clear.

“When we lose one match, it doesn’t mean we have to say we’re not the favourites. On the contrary, we have to accept our responsibility.”

That, Mkhitaryan declared, is to “win matches and achieve our goals.”
