Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be keen to “change the story” in the Champions League final between PSG and Inter Milan after disappointment two years ago.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Two years ago, Henrikh Mkhitaryan was only able to play a cameo role in the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Manchester City.

The Armenian had been a key player for Inter throughout the competition.

However, Mkhitaryan had suffered a muscle strain in the semifinals against AC Milan. This meant that he was not at full fitness for the final.

Mkhitaryan watched on as his team put in an impressive effort against Manchester City – but still lost 0-1. He came on late, and was unable to turn the tide of the match.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has something of a mixed experience in finals.

The Armenian won the 2017 Europa League final with Manchester United.

Then, Mkhitaryan returned to the Europa League final in Arsenal. However, he was unable to travel with the Gunners, as UEFA controversially chose Azerbaijan to host the match.

Therefore, given the political tensions between Azerbaijan and Mkhitaryan’s native Armenia, there were questions of the midfielder’s safety.

Then, Mkhitaryan was back in a European final in 2022. He helped Roma to the Europa Conference League final.

Mkhitaryan started that match, but had to come off relatively early due to an injury.

Now, the 36-year-old has a golden opportunity to really crown his long and decorated career.

There’s little doubt that Mkhitaryan will be in Inter’s starting eleven next Saturday. He’ll take up his spot in the midfield trio alongside Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella.

Mkhitaryan remains one of Inter’s most reliable players. The Armenian is behind only Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, and Alessandro Bastoni for playing time among Nerazzurri outfield players.

And Mkhitaryan will be hoping that he can shift the balance and allow Inter to do what they weren’t able to in 2023.
