Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is aiming to “go out with a bang” in what could be his last season at Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu remains an Inter player at the start of this season.

The Turkish international is set to go into his fifth season as a Nerazzurri player. He joined the club on a free transfer from city rivals AC Milan in the summer of 2021.

However, that certainly does not mean that there were not transfer rumours surrounding Calhanoglu.

For several weeks, there was a long transfer saga linking the 31-year-old to Galatasaray.

However, in the end the Turkish champions did not offer anywhere near what Inter would have wanted for Calhanoglu.

Nevertheless, the former Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder’s contract runs out at the end of June 2027.

Therefore, in one year’s time Inter are certainly going to have a decision to make regarding the midfielder.

At the moment, there is certainly no guarantee that Calhanoglu will leave Inter at the end of this season.

However, the Corriere dello Sport suggest, there is a real feeling that it could happen.

Assuming that Inter do not extend Calhanoglu’s contract, next summer would be their last opportunity to cash in on the Turkish international.

Meanwhile, the player himself may feel that he’s accomplished all that he can in an Inter shirt.

In four seasons at the club, Calhanoglu has won the Serie A title and reached two Champions League finals.

On an individual level, meanwhile, the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder was named as the Serie A midfielder of the season for the 2023-24 campaign.

But Calhanoglu’s career at Inter is not over. He will have at the very least one more season in the Nerazzurri shirt.

And therefore, the 31-year-old could see this season as the right time to end a five-year stay at Inter on a high note. He will have a particular motivation to pick up more silverware.
