Paris FC Prepare Ambitious Move for Idrissa Gueye

After 46 long years, Paris FC will make their long-awaited return to Ligue 1 — but they are not simply returning to make up the numbers. With new backing from the Arnault family and the Red Bull group, the capital’s “other” club is setting the pace early in the transfer window.

According to Foot Mercato, one of their early moves could see a high-profile return to the city: “Indeed, his contract will expire on June 30th and he will be free as of July 1st. This is an opportunity for clubs looking to land a defensive midfielder who is available for free (without transfer fees) and experienced.”

“This has not escaped the attention of PFC, who appreciate his profile but also the fact that he is very familiar with Ligue 1 from his time at LOSC and PSG.”

The player in question? Idrissa Gana Gueye. At 35, the Senegalese midfielder is approaching the end of his second spell at Everton, but remains a figure of discipline, professionalism and tactical intelligence.

Financial Power Backs Footballing Vision

PFC’s war chest is estimated to be in the region of €70 to €80 million — remarkable for a newly promoted side. But under new ownership, this is not just a summer of short-term fixes.

The strategy is clear: blend youth and experience to form a competitive squad. Lucas Stassin, Gaëtan Perrin and Promise David are already in the frame. Adding Gueye would inject Ligue 1 know-how and a sense of maturity into their core.

Gueye’s 99-game spell at PSG from 2019 to 2022 included five trophies and showcased his ability to operate in high-pressure, high-possession sides. His experience with Lille before that only enhances his Ligue 1 credentials.

Turning Point at Goodison

Gueye’s 2023–24 campaign at Everton has been productive — 40 appearances in all competitions, three assists, and his usual industry in front of the back four. But with his contract expiring, and talks of a potential renewal having gone quiet, the moment may be right for a return to familiar ground.

There’s no bitterness from Merseyside. Gueye remains admired by Toffees fans and respected within the club. His exit, if it materialises, would be with dignity.

“This summer, the player, author of 40 appearances in all competitions (3 assists), reaches a turning point in his second adventure with the Toffees,” Foot Mercato reports.

Whether Gueye is drawn to Paris FC’s project, or opts for a final extension in the Premier League, the fact that his future sits at the centre of two vastly different clubs speaks volumes about his enduring class.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Everton supporters, this is a crossroads that was always coming — but still feels difficult to process. Idrissa Gueye has been one of the Toffees’ most consistent performers across two separate spells. He doesn’t just fill a role; he defines how we play out of possession.

At 35, the legs might not be what they were five years ago, but the brain absolutely still is. His positioning, leadership and tactical awareness are second to none, especially in games where grit and discipline are needed. Losing that would mean more than just finding a replacement — it’s losing a heartbeat in midfield.

Of course, from a club perspective, handing out new deals at his age has to be carefully considered. But letting him go for free when he’s still turning in 40 games a season? It could backfire — especially if he helps steady a rising Paris FC side with European ambitions.

If this is goodbye, we’ll salute him. But there’s still time for one more year in blue, and many of us hope the club sees that too.
