Emerson Nwaneri, younger brother of Ethan Nwaneri, came off the bench for Arsenal U18s in a pre-season friendly against Dover Athletic’s first team on Saturday.

The Gunners were beaten 2-0 at the Megger Community Stadium, with goals from Luke Baptiste and Francis Mampolo securing victory for the Isthmian League Premier Division side.

Emerson, a versatile midfielder who can also play at right-back, is entering his final schoolboy year and was part of the squad that won last season’s Premier League Floodlit Shield.

He has also been recognised at international level, receiving an invite to an England U15 Talent ID camp last year.

The Arsenal starting XI was:

Ranson, King, Onyekachukwu, Pedro, Ogunnaike, Murisa, Hashi, Marciniak, O’Neill, Zecevic John, Bailey Joseph.

Meanwhile, the older Nwaneri brother has reportedly agreed a new deal with the club with just the official announcement pending.

At the end of last year, Ethan said of his younger brother, “There are three years between us so it would be really cool if we could both play in the Arsenal first-team together one day. We’ve spoken about that a bit and what that would be like, it’s something to aim for.”
