Alejandro Garnacho is edging closer to his desired Premier League move – but it will depend on one transfer being facilitated.

The exiled Manchester United starlet is awaiting concrete approaches from his suitors after it became clear he would play no part in Ruben Amorim’s plans following his post-Europa League final antics.

Since the end of the campaign, Garnacho has continuously been linked with a host of clubs, but such links have yet to materialise into a formal offer being sent United’s way.

There is plenty of time for that to change, though, and perhaps in the not-so-distant future.

Chelsea mulling over Alejandro Garnacho swoop

ESPN have today claimed that Chelsea are ‘closely monitoring’ the forward’s situation at Old Trafford and retain their interest from the January transfer window; they held talks with Garnacho mid-season but opted against submitting a bid, unlike Napoli, who had a £40 million proposal rebuffed.

Now, however, it’s been suggested that £40m would indeed be enough for the Reds to sanction their academy graduate’s exit, despite previously valuing him at a whopping £70m.

Arguably, their handling of Garnacho’s case has ultimately backed them into a corner into accepting below what they believe he’s worth. The fact that clubs are now fully aware that Amorim wants him out and INEOS desperately need him sold, gives other sides a strong bargaining position.

In order for Chelsea to fully pursue the Argentine international, they would likely have to offload Nicolas Jackson, who’s fallen out of favour following Liam Delap and Joao Pedro’s arrivals, beforehand.

Jackson has come up in conversations in M16 in recent days, but Chelsea’s £80-£100m asking price is almost certain to price United out of a deal – unless they can use Garnacho to their advantage in negotiations.

In the meantime, Garnacho will not be featuring at all in United’s pre-season tour of the United States, and is instead staying at Carrington to continue his personal preparations for the new season.
