Erling Haaland opened the scoring for Manchester City against Southampton on Saturday to end his recent goal drought.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon's meeting with the newly-promoted side, the Norwegian striker had netted 13 goals in 12 appearances for the reigning Premier League champions. His previous ten league efforts had arrived in vital games, scoring a hat-trick against West Ham in August and a strong strike in the clash with title-chasers Arsenal in September.

However, Haaland was unable to find the back of the net in his last three games for City, failing to score against Newcastle United, Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

His first league goal since September finally came on Saturday, scoring in the first five minutes to dent Southampton's hopes of achieving their first win of the campaign.

It was an interesting strike from Haaland, who managed to get his foot to the ball while clashing with Jan Bednarek. City's ability to work the ball down the left side of the pitch opened an opportunity for Matheus Nunes to find the sensational striker, who fired his effort past Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks.

The strike was Haaland's 14th of the campaign and his 11th in the league. The City striker could earn a third consecutive Golden Boot award if he continues his excellent goalscoring form this season.
