A cup win and a top seven finish capped off a remarkable season for Go Ahead Eagles. Paul Simonis guided the side to 19 wins from 41 games, with 10 draws and 12 defeats, progressing on the work done by Rene Hake in previous seasons. The cup win provides European football as well, a remarkable achievement for a side that were playing second tier football just a few seasons ago.

Player of the season: Oliver Antman

It could be argued that Oliver Antman is the signing of the season league wide. The 23-year-old Finnish winger has taken the league by storm, with six goals and 15 assists in 32 Eredivisie games. There will be plenty of sides inquiring about the availability of the winger this summer. Antman remains under contract until 2027 and is valued at €4m, although the Eagles wil likely want a lot more for their star man.

Young player of the season: Jakob Breum

Danish attacking midfielder Jakob Breum really came on this season. After three goals in 37 games for the side last year, he grabbed 11 goals and five assists this time around. Like Antman, he will certainly attract interest this summer. Yet also like his Finnish teammate, the side have him under contract until 2027 so can ask for more than the €5m the player is valued on Transfermarkt.

Summer needs:

The side could do with improving the defence, which conceded 55 goals this season, the most in the top eight. With European football to contend with next season they may also want to add more depth to the squad so that their league form doesn’t suffer too much with the added games. Far too often sides follow up a season like this with a relegation battle after they struggle to marry domestic and continental football.
