Bethany England has been nominated for the Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month award for January.
The nomination comes after our captain found the back of the net twice across two games in the month, taking her tally to seven in the competition, as she helped us extend our unbeaten run to six games in the WSL.
Although she failed to find the target in the 1-0 win over Leicester City in our first game of the new year (19 January), Bethany quickly rediscovered her goalscoring form the following weekend against Crystal Palace.
Guiding a header home in Sutton last Sunday to break the deadlock on 14 minutes, our number nine then doubled her tally and our advantage with another trademark headed goal shortly after to help us edge Crystal 3-2 at VBS Community Stadium.
The brace against the Eagles saw her create history in the WSL as she became the first player to have scored against every club that has played in England’s top flight (19).
While heading home both efforts, it moved Bethany level on terms with Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw (24) for the most headed goals in WSL’s history.
It is the third time she has been nominated for the award this term, having also been shortlisted in September and December.
Up against Bethany for the award are Chelsea’s Nathalie Bjorn and Millie Bright, Manchester City's Vivianne Miedema, Liverpool’s Olivia Smith, Manchester United’s Elisaberth Terland and Ella Toone, and Leicester City’s Julie Thibaud.
But, as usual, you can help Bethany to be named Player of the Month by voting for the forward via the link below. Voting is now open and will close at 11am on Monday 3 February.
