Birmingham City have sent shockwaves throughout the Championship this summer with their impressive recruitment.

Chris Davies’ side were promoted to the second-tier last term in record-breaking fashion and have added the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray and Tommy Doyle to their ranks as they aim to create a similar impact in the 2025/26 campaign.

Blues recently secured Brighton defender Eiran Cashin’s services for next season, which has led to questions over where some of their current crop, such as Phil Neumann and Christoph Klarer, stand.

Football League World’s Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, believes that Davies should stick with what he knows at the back ahead of the imminent Championship campaign.

Birmingham City advised on centre-back pairing amid Eiran Cashin arrival

“Straight off the bat, Christoph Klarer is undroppable for me,” stated Jason. “He was an absolute rock last season, he knows how we were set up, and he's essentially the captain without actually being captain of this squad.

“So, he has to start. For the sake of pre-season, we've obviously had Phil Neumann in for the entire time. He's someone that we've also been tracking since last summer. So, I feel like you can't put all that work in and then not play him.

“Eiran Cashin has only just come in. For me, it has to be a partnership of Klarer and Neumann.

“If Cashin can prove himself, then I guess it's his spot to gain. It's sort of what happened last season when Dion Sanderson lost his spot. He started the season, and Ben Davies took over.

“The beauty of having a big squad means that you can pick and choose players. For me, we have to go with Klarer and Neumann for the first game of the season.

“Cashin is going to play plenty of football over the season, but that would be my pairing for the first game against Ipswich Town.”

Birmingham City’s ambition and willingness to spend money is the stuff of dreams for most managers, but it does bring forward unique challenges.

The stars Davies and Co. have recruited will all be expecting to play, and soon it may become a difficult situation to manage in some areas of the pitch.

Having a squad full of quality is crucial for success in the Championship, with injuries guaranteed over a gruelling 46 games.

However, it takes a certain skillset in the dugout to allocate minutes correctly and know when to rest certain players, which is a task Davies will have to tackle immediately.
