Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed the arrival of one Frenchman on Friday afternoon. In the meantime, it looks as if another one might be headed for the exit door. Striker Elye Wahi passed his scheduled medical and was officially unveiled as a new signing.
Wahi inked a new contract with the SGE valid until 2030. Kicker affirms its earlier report of a €20m base-transfer-fee plus €5m in performance incentive add-ons. Eintracht have thus re-invested one-quarter of the €75m they reportedly received from Omar Marmoush’s sale to Manchester City.
“We have been interested in Elye Wahi for quite some time and we are pleased that he will play for Eintracht Frankfurt with immediate effect,” Eintracht board-member-for-sport Markus Krösche noted in a statement. “We will give him the time he needs to adapt.”
“I’m happy to be joining Eintracht with immediate effect,” the player himself added, “I’ve heard a lot of positive things. It quickly became clear to me that I wanted to take this opportunity I want to repay the trust placed in me with good performances.”
Wahi may very well not receive the chance to play alongside fellow Frenchman Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe, as it appears as if Krösche and his administrative team have finally found a solution for the underutilized 24-year-old.
Ebimbe has made just 11 appearances across all competitions this season amid criticism from head coach Dino Toppmöller. His last league appearance came on match-day against Stuttgart in November. Form issues and a calf injury have kept him out since.
France’s RMC Sport claims that Ebimbe has agreed to terms with AS Monaco. Current talks revolve around a six-month loan with a purchase option. Frankfurt paid €6.5m to purchase Ebimbe after a loan from PSG.
Despite all his issues this year, Ebimbe has contributed two goals in Europa League starts this year. The Stains-native also assisted on Marmoush’s late equalizer on match-day six’s famous 3-3 draw with Bayern Munich.
