Eddie Howe has been reflecting on Monday night at the London Stadium.
Honest as ever, the United boss analysing West Ham 0 Newcastle 1.
A gutsy performance, full of character, seeing Newcastle deservedly the winners.
Not a night for great entertaining football but what there was, largely came from the away side.
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players with a significant victory, both in terms of potential Champions League qualification and as preparation and momentum for Wembley on Sunday.
Eddie Howe reflecting on West Ham 0 Newcastle 1:
“One of our best wins of the season.
“Not in terms of performance but desire and heart.
“All the big ingredients you need to be a successful team.
“A need to win when the game is tight and find a way to get over the line.
“We defended really well after the first three minutes which were a bit scary.
“A deserved win.”
Eddie Howe on whether he is happy/relieved that he can focus on the Carabao Cup Final now:
“Yes.
“These games [Cup Finals], we learned this last time [in 2023], can be quite a long wait.
“When everyone is talking about it but you have massive games ahead.
“I’m pleased it’s here and hopefully we can perform well.”
Eddie Howe on the possibility of the Carabao Cup Final distracting the players:
“That is why for me it was such a good win.
“I would be easy for the players to be distracted but they were present.
“Harvey Barnes did very well today. Lovely cross.
“Tino looked good at left-back.
“We will focus fully on Liverpool now.
“We will take everything into consideration.
“I felt we were in need of a win to go into the final with a real boost and lift.
“It will do us the world of good.
“Also for our league table position, today was vital.”
