FC Bayern has been linked with the signing of Florian Wirtz for some time now. The DFB star is one of the biggest young talents in European football. Head of Sport Max Eberl has now confirmed that the German record champions are interested in the attacking player.

Florian Wirtz is currently enjoying an absolute dream season with Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old has scored 37 goals in 45 appearances for the Werkself. Wirtz has not only been instrumental in winning the first German championship in Leverkusen’s history, but Bayer are still dreaming of winning the treble (championship, cup and Europa League).

Wirtz has been linked with numerous top European clubs in recent months. FC Bayern is also rumoured to be interested. One thing is clear: the German international will not be leaving Leverkusen next summer. This was recently confirmed by Wirtz’s father and advisor. It remains to be seen what will happen in the summer of 2025. According to this, the youngster is ready to take the next step in his career in a year’s time.

Eberl on Wirtz: „Then we have to consider it“

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has now confirmed that the Munich club will try to sign Wirtz should he land on the transfer market: „If a player of this calibre, like Florian Wirtz, is available and on the market, then we have to consider it,“ he emphasised in an interview with BILD. However, the 50-year-old added that such a transfer is not a foregone conclusion: „It is also possible that the player will reject the move.“

Leverkusen will be very reluctant to let Wirtz go. Should that time come, they want to generate the maximum transfer fee. According to Leverkusen boss Fernando Carro, the financial pain threshold is in the region of 150 million euros. According to Eberl, Bayern would basically be able to handle such a deal: „FC Bayern signed an absolute top star in Harry Kane last summer and showed that the club is capable of spending such sums.

Club patron Uli Hoeneß had also recently signalled that the club would be prepared to break through this sound barrier for a German international.
