Early Pichichi standings: Real Madrid star leapfrogs Barcelona frontman | OneFootball

Two players have taken an early lead in the race for this season’s top-scorer award in the Spanish top-flight.

This comes owing to respective hauls of three goals in two appearances to date.

First up comes something of a surprise package, in the form of Villarreal wide-man Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian international was afforded his first start of the campaign against Girona on Sunday, and responded with a hat-trick.

And quickly joining Buchanan on three goals for the new La Liga season was Real Madrid frontman Kylian Mbappé. With sights on defending his Pichichi crown, Mbappé followed up on an opening day winner against Osasuna with a brace in a 3-0 win over Real Oviedo on Sunday.

Such efforts have seen both players overtake the only other two players to have found the net more than once thus far in 2025/26.

Both are currently plying their trade in the city of Barcelona, in Barca’s Ferran Torres, and Espanyol’s Pere Milla.
