Goals from Koch (43’), Marmoush (65’), Ekitiké (71’) and Collins (82’) helped Eintracht recover from Doan’s opener (37’) and move on to 33 points at the season’s midway mark.

Doan put Freiburg ahead against the run of play, but Robin Koch headed home Marmoush’s corner to make it 1-1 at the break. Marmoush’s 20th goal of the season in all competitions made it 2-1, with Ekitiké’s fine finish and Collins’ first Bundesliga goal adding gloss late on.

Eagles unchanged

Dino Toppmöller fielded the same XI that started Saturday’s 1-0 victory at FC St. Pauli, with Marmoush partnering Ekitiké in attack and fit-again Tuta among the substitutes. Before kick-off, a minute’s silence was held in memory of 1959 title-winner and 1960 European Cup finalist Dieter Lindner, who passed away in December at the age of 85.

Doan stuns Eintracht, Koch responds

The first 30 minutes were played out almost entirely in the Freiburg half as Eintracht applied heavy pressure in search of an opener. Marmoush, brimming with confidence after opening his account for 2025 against St. Pauli, sent a curling shot off target not long after kick-off, before Mario Götze drilled a powerful volley straight at goalkeeper Noah Atubolu ten minutes later.

Freiburg became more ambitious as the first half went on and opened the scoring with their first real opportunity of the match. The visitors worked the ball out wide to Merlin Röhl, whose drilled ball across the face of the six-yard box was turned in by Japanese international Doan. The Eagles responded magnificently, however, equalising just six minutes later when Koch rose highest from Marmoush’s in-swinging corner to nod home against his former club.

Eintracht cruise to victory

Atubolu was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the early stages of the second half too. Within seconds of the restart, Marmoush tried to catch the Freiburg keeper off guard with a looping effort after running on to Arthur Theate’s clever ball but failed to direct his shot on target. Nathaniel Brown had a low drive parried past the post by Atubolu, who was also equal to a deflected Marmoush shot five minutes later.

The Eagles finally took the lead for the first time in the match with 25 minutes remaining, Marmoush pouncing on Max Rosenfelder’s attempted clearance and squeezing a volley past Atubolu. It was 3-1 just six minutes later as Maximilian Eggestein gave away possession in midfield, allowing Götze to pick out Ekitiké and the Frenchman to finish confidently for his 12th goal of the campaign in all competitions.

Collins put the seal on a fine Eintracht victory with nine minutes remaining, wriggling past a number of Freiburg challenges inside the penalty area and poking the ball into the far corner to open his Bundesliga account.
