Arsenal deliver impressive home win over PSG

Scorers: Havertz 20′, Saka 35′

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be happy with two goals and a clean sheet as his side recorded a 2-0 win over PSG at the Emirates.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring for the Gunners after he headed home from a looping cross into the box.

The home side then doubled their lead as a Bukayo Saka whipped in a free-kick from near the touchline that missed everyone and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Haaland on target again as City turn over Bratislava

Scorers: Gündoğan 8′, Foden 15′, Haaland 58′ McAtee 74′

Manchester City got back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava, with Erling Haaland on target in UCL action once again.

The away side were soon ahead as İlkay Gündoğan scored his first goal since his return to the club, his strike from the edge of the box deflected in.

Phil Foden then doubled City’s lead after some lovely passing build up play led to a cross from the right from Jérémy Doku, which was converted with a curling finish from the England forward.

It wouldn’t be a Champions League night without a goal for Erling Haaland, and when the striker found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper from a defence-splitting pass from Rico Lewis, he made no mistake.

City’s fourth was netted by 21-year-old James McAtee, the youngster delivering a fine finish from inside the box to score his first in Champions League action.

Sporting leave it late to earn draw with PSV

Scorers: Schouten 15′; Bragança 83′

The spoils were shared between PSV and Sporting after a late equaliser from the Portuguese side levelled the scores at 1-1.

PSV were ahead after a quarter of an hour thanks to a rocket of a strike from outside of the box that Jerdy Schouten let fly.

That lead lasted until the 83rd minute, when a deflected cross was acrobatically stabbed home by Daniel Bragança.

Inter in fine form with big win over Red Star

Scorers: Çalhanoğlu 11′, Arnautović 59′, Martínez 71′, Teremi (PEN) 81′

San Siro was rocking as Inter delivered a 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade

Inter were ahead early on as Hakan Çalhanoğlu netted one of his trademark superb free-kicks that delighted the home crowd.

Into the second half and the Nerazzurri doubled their lead when Mehdi Taremi won the ball back in a dangerous area and supplied Marko Arnautović, who duly delivered the low finish beyond the goalkeeper.

Lautaro Martínez scored his first goal of the season at the weekend, and came off the bench to score Inter’s third, as Teremi once again won the ball back in Inter’s half, playing the ball in for the Argentine to finish from close range.

The Nerazzurri hit four when Teremi got his deserved goal, scoring a penalty with nine minutes of normal time remaining.

Adeyemi the hero as Dortmund thrash Celtic

Scorers: Can 7′ (PEN), Adeyemi 11′, 29′, 42′, Guirassy 40′ (PEN), 66′, Nmecha 79′; Maeda 9′

A chaotic opening period led to a 7-1 win for Dortmund over Celtic.

Dortmund had a penalty after just five minuter when Celtic stopper Kasper Schmeichel brought down Jamie Gittens in the box.

Emre Can stepped up to take the spot-kick and converted with a strike high into the net.

That began a few minutes of madness as Daizen Maeda equalised for Celtic and Karim Adeyemi’s strike was deflected in just two minutes later to put Dortmind back in front.

The home side had a two goal cushion when Adeyemi let fly with an incredible angled shot that smashed into the roof of the net.

Things began to come undone when Dortmund scored another thanks to a Serhou Guirassy penalty and a driven shot from inside the box from Adeyemi completed his first-half hat-trick.

Guirassy struck again in the second half to supply Dortmund’s sixth, his jinking run from inside the box generating the space for him to strike from close range.

Dortmund’s seventh came courtesy of Lukas Nmecha when he let fly with a wicked solo effort from inside the box.

Leverkusen edge out narrow win over Milan

Scorers: Boniface 51′

Bayer Leverkusen saw out a 1-0 win over Milan with Victor Boniface on the scoresheet.

Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan got down well to save a shot from Jeremie Frimpong just after half-time, but Victor Boniface was there to net the rebound from close range.

Lewandowski nets brace as Barca thump Young Boys

Scorers:  Lewandowski 8, 51′,  Raphinha 34′, Martínez 37′, Camara 81′ (OG)

Barcelona got back to winning ways with an emphatic 5-0 win over Young Boys.

Hansi Flick’s side got off to a great start when a lovely ball round the corner from Lamine Yamal allowed Raphinha to shoot, and when it was clear that it was going wide, Robert Lewandowski was on hand to tap home after a smart run into the box.

The former Leeds forward then went from assist-maker to goalscorer as he lashed home a finish on the rebound from a Pedri shot.

There was no hangover from a weekend defeat to Osasuna, as Iñigo Martínez made it three before half time as a free-kick on the by-line from Pedri was curled in beautifully and headed home.

Another set-piece was the undoing of Young Boys after the break as a corner from Raphinha was headed back across goal by Martínez and then tapped home by Lewandowski.

Barça’s fifth came courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Mohamed Ali Camara, as the centreback turned the ball into his own net.

Champions League debutants demolish RB Salzburg

Scorers: Sima 24′, 70′, Camara 66′, Lage 75′

Brest have made it two wins from two in their European debut season as they beat Salzburg by an incredible 4-0 scoreline.

Salzburg thought they had taken the lead when Samson Baidoo netted from a corner, but the effort was ruled out by VAR for offside.

Then it was Brest that took the lead against the run of play when Andre Sima netted his second in two Champions League appearances, using great strength to hold off the defender and poke the ball beyond goalkeeper Janis Blaswich.

The French side had been effective on the counter-attack all evening, and doubled their lead when a long ball from the goalkeeper was crossed into the box and Mahdi Camara was able to take advantage of some hesitant defending to finish well.

Just four minutes later and Brest had their third, as an unmarked Sima struck from a rebounded shot, benefiting from from more defensive chaos from Salzburg in the box.

With 15 minutes to go, the Champions League debutants had their fourth when yet another cross from the right-hand side was struck from the edge of the box by Mathias Pereira Lage.

Stuttgart held by Sparta Prague

Scorers: Millot 7′; Kairinen 32′

Stuttgart were playing their first Champions League home game in 14 years, but were held to a 1-1 draw by Sparta Prague.

Enzo Millot opened the scoring for the home side as he rose highest to nod home from a dangerous cross from the left.

The Czech champions soon got back on level terms though as Kaan Kairinen netted a stunning free kick right into the top corner.

That’s when the goals dried up as Prague shut up shop, and a superb defensive performance earned them a hard-fought point.
