Arsenal had previously focused on signing players under the age of 24, as part of a deliberate strategy to build a team geared towards long-term success. This approach saw the arrival of talents such as Gabriel, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber and several others. The club benefited greatly from their youthful energy and potential.
This recruitment model worked effectively, particularly because these players joined at an age where they could still be developed and moulded to fit into the club’s evolving philosophy. Their arrival also played a key role in changing the culture at Arsenal, contributing to a dynamic and progressive atmosphere on and off the pitch.
However, the past three seasons have highlighted the limitations of relying solely on young talent. While youth brings energy and adaptability, it has become increasingly evident that experience is equally important in the pursuit of trophies. A balanced squad is now viewed as essential to achieving sustained success at the highest level.
Recognising this, Arsenal have adjusted their transfer policy during the current window. The club have brought in more experienced players, including Christian Nørgaard (31), Viktor Gyökeres (27), and Martin Zubimendi (26). These signings represent a strategic shift towards a more balanced squad profile, combining youthful potential with seasoned professionalism. Each has been acquired on merit and is expected to contribute immediately to the team’s performance.
Zubimendi signs for Arsenal
Despite this evolution, Arsenal’s reported interest in Ademola Lookman has raised questions. According to Football London, the winger’s age, 27, may present an issue for the club’s recruitment team. Although he is in the prime years of his career, some within the club believe the current squad already has enough experienced players and may hesitate to add another.
Nonetheless, others may argue that further experience could be an asset, especially given the number of young players already present. A well-balanced mix of youth and maturity has proven crucial for successful squads in recent seasons, and the addition of another established professional could provide greater depth and resilience as Arsenal compete across multiple competitions.
