Late Portuguese forward starred at Molineux across three seasons, before moving to Liverpool

Wolves have paid further tribute to the late Diogo Jota by inducting him into the club’s Hall of Fame.

The Liverpool forward tragically died earlier this month along with his brother, fellow professional footballer Andre Silva, in a car crash in Spain.

Jota took his first steps in English football with Wolves while on loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017, a move he later made permanent before joining Liverpool in 2020.

He scored 44 goals and assisted 19 in 131 total appearances for Wolves, who have now confirmed his induction into the Hall of Fame.

John Richards, chairman of the Wolves Hall of Fame committee, said: “There is such a feeling of sadness and disbelief around this awful tragedy that we wanted to make this tribute of our own as soon as we could.

“Like everyone else, we’ve been stunned by events, and we remember what a wonderful player Diogo was for Wolves during that unforgettable promotion season under Nuno [Espirito Santo] and our early years back in the Premier League.

“His record of 44 goals at Wolves, and then 65 at Liverpool as a Premier League title winner, speaks volumes. So many fans across the game – especially in Portugal after he helped them win the Nations League this summer – are feeling his loss deeply. We saw no reason to delay this decision.

“We hope it will bring a little comfort to those who were close to Diogo and André, and we trust Wolves supporters will understand that this gesture is made with real love and admiration, and also fully justified.”

Wolves’ director of football administration Matt Wild added: “Diogo was not only a phenomenal footballer, but someone who carried himself with humility and kindness throughout his time at Wolves, and will be sorely missed by all of us.

“His legacy here is etched into our history, and we are proud to see him recognised in this way. The response from supporters has been overwhelming, and this Hall of Fame honour feels very fitting.”

Wolves also confirmed plans to honour Jota and Silva ahead of their next two home matches, a friendly meeting with Celta Vigo and their home Premier League opener against Manchester City.

Tributes have flooded in from all corners of the footballing world since Jota’s passing.

Countless players and fans have paid their respects at a memorial outside Anfield, and a local artist has painted a commemorative mural of the player on a pub near the stadium.

Liverpool have also immortalised Jota’s profile on the club website, where he remains listed alongside the first-team squad in a section marked ‘forever’.

His No20 shirt has been retired, and Liverpool paid further tribute ahead of their opening pre-season friendly against Preston at Deepdale last weekend.
