Former Serie A striker Paolo Di Canio says he’d ‘arrest’ Manchester United directors for selling Scott McTominay to Napoli last summer.

The Scotland international moved to the Stadio Maradona in a €30m deal from the Red Devils and has had a solid start to the season under Antonio Conte, scoring twice and assisting once in eight appearances across all competitions.

The Partenopei are currently the Serie A table leaders with 16 points in the opening seven matches, two more than defending champions Inter.

During an interview with Naples-based paper Il Mattino, Di Canio praised McTominay and harshly criticised the Red Devils’ directors for selling the Scottish midfielder.

“I’d go to Manchester United to arrest all directors,” said the former West Ham star.

“How can you give away McTominay? Napoli also have a player like Neres, who is a reserve and Gilmour proved at Brighton to have the same quality as Lobotka with the ball at his feet.”

Napoli’s next Serie A match is away at Empoli on Sunday, October 20.

They’ll also meet direct rivals Milan, Atalanta and Inter before the next international break in November.

McTominay, a product of the Manchester United academy, played 255 games at Old Trafford, scoring 29 goals and providing eight assists.
