Leyton Orient can make some key deals to strengthen their squad this month.

Leyton Orient have had a tremendous start to the season so far and will be targeting a play-off push in the second half of the season, having won their last five League One games.

After finishing last season in a very respectable 11th place, many around the club, along with the supporters, just aimed for some stability and another year of avoiding a relegation dogfight.

However, the start to the season has surpassed even the most optimistic of fans in East London as the O's currently sit in eighth place and only four points outside the top six.

Richie Wellens will be ecstatic about how the season has gone so far, but will also be keen to use January as an opportunity to strengthen and solidify the squad to potentially make an even stronger push towards the promotion and play-off places.

With this in mind, Football League World takes a look at two deals that could make up a dream week in the transfer window.

In: Yan Dhanda

Hearts will be very disappointed with their season so far, having been knocked out of the UEFA Conference League and floundering near the bottom of the Scottish Premiership, with the threat of a potential relegation play-off very real.

Amid their poor start, midfielder Yan Dhanda has struggled to nail down a place in the side since making the switch from Ross County in the summer - having only played consecutive matches three times and failing to complete a full 90 minutes at any point this season.

The same cannot be said for Orient's Jamie Donley, currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, who has found his form after previously failing to make a breakthrough early on.

Donley has started in the O's last eight league games and has scored in each of their last three league games but in his first year in senior football, neither Orient nor Spurs will want to see the 20-year-old burnt out.

Whether Dhanda would be available remains to be seen but an ambitious swoop for the 26-year-old would provide Wellens with some extra quality in midfield and a player who knows the EFL from the four years he spent in the Championship with Swansea City.

Not only would the move strengthen Orient's attacking depth, but the move would be financially viable for the O's who are unlikely to fork out any large sums for players this window.

Out: Brandon Cooper

Brandon Cooper's lack of involvement this season so far is due to no fault of his own - put down, instead, to a phenomenal run of form from centre-backs Omar Beckles and Dan Happe.

Having gone through the whole month of December without conceding a single goal in all competitions, Cooper hasn't started a league game since the O's 0-0 draw with Wrexham back in late September. He also seems to have fallen behind Jack Simpson in the pecking order too, with Simpson deputising whenever Happe has been out with injury as of late - whereas Cooper has failed to make the matchday squad in three of Orient's last six games.

Last season the Welshman clearly showed his talent in League One, and would make a more than viable option for any League Two side vying for promotion - or maybe even a League One side fighting to stay up.

It doesn't seem as though the defender is going to breakthrough into the side any time soon, so either a temporary or permanent move away from the side could benefit both Cooper himself and Richie Wellens' side.
