Denmark manager Brian Riemer has revealed his true feelings about Manchester United full-back Patrick Dorgu.

“He has really convinced me,” Riemer told Tipsbladet. “I dare to tell you now that I was a bit skeptical in Lecce, because when I watched the games, he was more of a winger than a back, and his defensive skills were… debatable.”

Since his move to Man United, Dorgu has proven Riemer wrong. “But I have seen him many times now, and I am actually quite impressed with what he has achieved defensively.”

“Defensively, my doubts were there, and there he has convinced me. He has done it strongly. There are still small things that can be done better, but even in the best league in the world he has delivered,” the Denmark boss declared.

While United had a quiet January transfer window, Riemer remains convinced that manager Ruben Amorim brought the right defender to Old Trafford.

“I know they [United] play with a wingback, but many times he has ended up as a full-back, and that is why I have had him under the microscope and looked at how he defends. The situations I have analysed have convinced me that he can do both,” the Danish manager admitted.

Since his arrival at Old Trafford in January, Dorgu has received a slew of praise for his performances despite the challenge of playing in the Premier League.

Teammate Christian Eriksen heaped praise onto the 20 year old, voicing his belief that the rising star will excel at United.

Another figure who has expressed his confidence in Dorgu is none other than his manager, Ruben Amorim, who stated that the youngster is playing exceptionally well very soon after his move.

Even after Dorgu picked up a controversial red card during the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town in February, Amorim rallied to his side, insisting that Dorgu is ready for the Premier League in an effort to silence doubters.

What’s more, Dorgu’s decent form is evident in his performance statistics. In three Premier League outings, Dorgu has averaged a massive three tackles per game while winning a whopping 70% of his total duels, including 74% of his ground battles. (Sofascore)

Although United’s transfers over the past few seasons have been a mixed bag, Dorgu has proven to be a great asset to the team and a prudent transfer target by Amorim, who has clearly gotten his transfer strategy off to the right start since taking the helm at United.
