Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has criticised Manchester United’s role in his players’ – Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen – poor form in preparation for the upcoming EURO 2024 tournament.

The Danes have been drawn in the same group as England and they will also play Serbia and Slovenia in this summer’s competition.

Both Hojlund and Eriksen are considered to be key components of the Danish side but they have both struggled for form this season.

The striker arrived to Old Trafford last summer with a massive price tag around his neck of £72m and whilst being the club’s second top goal scorer this season, he has struggled to be involved in the play and he has endured long goal droughts throughout the season.

This can be seen in the fact he has only scored one goal since the 18th of February and has only had five chances in his last eight games, highlighting how far on the periphery he has existed at times.

Eriksen, on the other hand, has struggled for playing time this season, making just 26 appearances all year with many coming from the bench.

It is safe to say that neither player will be entering the competition with the form that the Danish fans would be hoping for.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, the Denmark manager stood up for his players but blamed United for their poor form.

“I’m not that worried. I am very happy that Christian has been playing a few minutes lately. It is extremely difficult to ‘shine’ in a team that struggles to make the connection work.”

“We know in this world that things can quickly go either way. I am happy that they are both in a good condition. So in that way I’m not too worried about those two.”

Both players can certainly feel aggrieved by the situation they find themselves in as Erik ten Hag’s decision to switch to a chaotic transitional team has rendered Eriksen’s role expendable and Hojlund has been starved of chances.

However, both players, like anyone, still need to take an element of individual responsibility for their own misfortunes.

They will be hoping they can enter the Euros with a bounce by leading United to an unlikely FA Cup triumph against Manchester City at Wembley.
